Founded by volunteers in 1989, the Tayside Medical History Museum holds one of the finest collections in Scotland. Today the museum is managed by the University of Dundee Museum Services and our displays explore the history of medicine in Tayside, with a special focus on Dundee’s pioneering legacy of medical research and practice.

The museum is based at Ninewells Hospital & Medical School, internationally recognised for the development of new surgical techniques and its leading role in fighting cancer, diabetes and other diseases. Founded in the 1890s, the Medical School is now one of the most highly regarded in the UK.

Our important collection of over 2000 objects includes surgical instruments, teaching charts, hospital equipment, nurses’ uniforms, medicinal plants, medical portraits, anatomical models, pills, potions and more!
